10 Cardmaking Techniques to Try With Just Jasmine Stamp Set

by Virginia Lu

Hello, Altenew friends! This is Virginia here. I am excited to share 10 tried and tested cardmaking techniques with you. I am using the Just Jasmine Stamp, Die and Mask Stencil Bundle from the latest release as examples.

This gorgeous stamp set comes with delicate solid and outline images and is ideal to try all sorts of techniques.  The 10 cardmaking techniques will be highlighted in bold for your easy reference.

Let’s get started!

Altenew-JustJasmineStampDie&MaskSet-Virginia#2MASKING

With the coordinating masks, I stamped the jasmine flowers in the “Miss You” card (using Cotton Candy, Coral Berry and Chamomile Inks). Masking is simple and effective as it helps to add interest and depth.

TIP! Find the spot for your focal point and stamp the main image first. Use the coordinating mask and stamp more images around it. Do pay attention to the composition, balance, and white space.

COLOR LAYERING and STACKING DIES WITH WASHI TAPE

The Color Layering was easy to do thanks to the design of stamps and the great property of the Altenew Inks. The stems were colored with Artist Markers (Bamboo and Volcano Lake).  I applied the Vellum Transparent Paper (die-cut with Rounded Rectangles) and added the Stacked Dies with Washi Tape.

To create the die-cut sentiment (Tea Party and Sea Shore Inks), simply place the Washi Tape over a piece of cardstock. I took out the Miss You Word Die and ran it through the Mini Blossom Die-Cutting Machine. See the new Satin White Sequins? Ooh-la-la!

STENCILING WITH WATERCOLORS

The next card utilizes the technique of Stenciling with Watercolors. I started with applying the Artists’ Watercolor 24 Pan Set over the Feathered Leaves Stencil.

WATERCOLORING and STENCILING

Thanks to the textures of the Altenew Watercolor Paper Set (A2), I was able to apply watercolors without flooding the unwanted area. Watercoloring and Stenciling are great techniques to try with this stamp set.

Altenew-JustJasmineStampDie&MaskSet-Virginia#6TIP:  Spray a light spritz of water over the stencil on paper. The tiny water droplets on paper will keep the intended area moist and allow you to add colors at ease. Keep the water brush super moist but not overly wet.

INLAID DIE-CUTTING

I kept the design clean and simple by stamping the jasmine flowers in Ultramarine, Eastern Sky, and Cloudy Night inks. Next, I die-cut the main image onto the watercolor paper and adhered the stamped image back into its place. Inlaid die-cutting is such a cool technique!

STAMPING

By Stamping the images in the background, I created a visually-appealing composition.

TIP! How to add a pop of colors into your design? Stamp a plain background in Jet Black and highlight your focal point with colors. You can add dimensions with your stamped, colored, die-cut, and fussy-cut images by using foam tape.

FUSSY CUTTING

Enchanted Gold, Pumpkin, and Marigold Inks proved to be a great color combo for the jasmine flowers. I cut out each layer and adhered them to one of the branches. Fussy-cutting is definitely worth the effort.

TORN WASHI TAPE

Have you tried using Washi Tapes to add interest? Using Torn Washi Tape (Dotted Washi Tape) is such a great trick when you need that extra something. The sentiment from Fancy Greetings was stamped in Enchanted Gold Pigment Ink.

CLEAR EMBOSSING and INK BLENDING

For more fun and inspiration, I am adding an extra card (top left corner) that I created for the release blog hop. Here, I used Clear-Embossing and Ink-Blending techniques to create a bright blue and white contrast.

The first card is such a great color combo, delicate and eye-catching. The sentiment treatment is fantastic. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the inlaid diecutting and, again, the colors you chose for the blooms on the second card. They really stand out against the stencilled background. The third card with the background stamping is just beautifully designed with the diecut flowers and that washi strip.
