by Tasnim

Hello and welcome to another Focus feature.

Today we will be highlighting Painted Flowers. This set is out of stock at the moment, but we expect to have it back in stock within two weeks.

Painted flower set

Design Inspiration: Faux watercolor. These flowers were designed to mimic the freestyle hand-sketched look of watercolor paintings.

Video Demo: Today we have a video to show you how the stamp layers work.

Simply stamp and experiment with colors, it can be quite fun! On this card, I drew the black stripes using the chisel nib of a black Copic marker. I stamped the flowers on a piece of white card stock, trimmed the cluster, and attached to the card base with strong glue. The sentiment is from our Lace Up set.

I did some more stamping on this card. Instead of using various colors, I went for a monochromatic look. The sentiment is from our Faux Veneer set, and I stamped it on a stip of white card stock, which I then mounted on foam tape.

Water coloring these flowers is very easy. On this card I first stamped the flowers (base layer only) using a mix of distress inks, then blended the stamped image using a wet brush. Make sure not to press the stamp too hard, just enough so that the ink transfers to the raised surfaces of the watercolor paper. Once they were dry, I stamped the outlines using Black pigment ink. The sentiment is from our set Label Love, which will be back in stock within two weeks.

We have another water color look here, but this time, I water colored the background instead of the flowers. To create the background, I first taped down the edges of a piece of 140lb weight water color paper on to my work surface. Next I sprayed it heavily with water, and then added streaks of Gauche paint using a wet brush. I let it dry for a few hours before taking off the tape. despite the heavy usage of water, the piece dried completely flat thanks to securing it to my work surface. I stamped and trimmed the flowers, then created a cluster using various layers of foam tape.

Creativity has no limits. A simple element like the frame on this card can take your card to a whole new level! I love the generous use of white space and how the flowers peek through the frame.
