Stamp Focus: Birch Impressionism

by Virginia Lu

Hello friends! This is Virginia here. How do you like our September release? Impressive, right? If you are a nature and floral lover, then you might have noticed the Birch Impressionism Stamp Set. This layering stamp set comes in two sizes of birch trees, four layers, two hearts, and 4 sentiments. With each layering stamp, it allows you to create incredible depth and details. I have created 3  cards and perhaps, through my examples, you will be quite impressed with this stamp set!

Let’s get right to the first project. The sentiment “happy winter birthday” was my inspiration. I set out to create a winter scene with birch trees. To simulate the white bark of the birch trees, I white-embossed (starting from the solid as first) the 3rd layer of the set first. Then I took out the Gentleman’s Gray Ink Set and applied ink to the trees.

You may not see that I used the coordinating die, but I did use them for the ink-blending. This is why the dies are worth getting because you can use the negative die-cut paper as the mask. With the negative die-cut (I use a piece of copy paper) in place, I applied the gray ink. After that, I used the coordinating die to cover up the trees and applied various blue inks (Deep Blue Seas and  Lapis Lazuli) around the trees.

Our Pure White Ink Spray is the best “snow”! I absolutely love creating the snow scene. The scene started to come to life once I added the white splatters! And oh… did I mention that it’s worth getting the coordinating die? I stamped the sentiment “happy winter birthday” and used the birch tree die and die cut the sentiment! I bet you can use this die for ALL of your sentiment! Cool, right?

TIP: To create a natural setting, do not be afraid to change up the stamps a little bit. The slanted tree on the left evokes a sense of nature in a rustic setting. ALSO, you can leave out the word “winter” and just use “happy birthday” all year round.

The 2nd card is to celebrate love and nature! The Parchment Cardstock is perfect for stamping the birch trees!Altenew-BirchImpressionism-Virginia#4

This time, the birch trees were stamped in brown (Hazelnut, Almond Butter) and white-embossed (Pure White Embossing Powder.)

I then die cut the trees and popped them over the cardstock. The background (Vanilla Cream) and heart (stamped in Rubellite) die cut with Halftone Hearts Nesting Dies were stamped with “A Walk in the Woods”. I also changed up the sentiment “you & me” to the vertical setting.

TIP: stamp the & first and then you (on top) and me (at the bottom). I used Washi Tape to cover part of the sentiment, so it will not leave any ink in unwanted areas when stamping.

My 3rd card is all about floral. The BirchAltenew-BirchImpressionism-Charming Doodles-Virginia#1 Impressionism Stamp Set is fabulous for backgrounds!

I paired it up with Charming Doodles with the assorted colors of Birch Impressionism images. This card is pretty straightforward. I am listing the colors in case youAltenew-BirchImpressionism-Charming Doodles-Virginia#1 like to create something like this.

Charming Doodles: stamps and leaves (Tropical Forest, Misty Morning), hearts (Coral Berry), flowers (Snapdragon, Marigold and Enchanted Gold), trees (Vanilla Cream, Sunray, Milk Chocolate).

As you can see “Birch Impressionism” is very versatile. I love that you can use the birch tree for nature or more graphic designs. The multiple layers sure make it fun and easy!

TIP: To add dimensions, simply pop up part of your background to create height and you can position your elements accordingly. In the 3rd card, the coordinating dies provide the background, sentiment, and colors!

I hope this post inspired you and leaves you with a good impression of the Birch Impressionism Stamp Set. I am truly impressed by how this set challenged me to get creative!  Have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Beautiful cards, my favorite is the first one with the snowy birches with the white EP for texture, gorgeous! LOVE that white ink spray snow too! Brilliant ideas in this post for getting the most out of this awesome stamp and die set, like the negative of the die cut birch trees for masks. Thank you for all your amazing inspiration!

These cards are beautiful and creative. At first glance I wasn’t interested in the Birch Impressionism set, but now I can’t wait to get it. Any chance of seeing a video step-by-step of how you did the Winter Birthday card. I think many of us learn better by seeing than reading the instructions.
