How-to Video! 3 Creative Ways to Add Color to Stamped Florals | Creative Coloring with Erum

by Erum Tasneem

Hello! Erum here and I have three cards + a VIDEO to share with you! The stamp featured on my cards is called the Statement Flowers Stamp Set. I’ll be sharing 3 creative ways to add color to stamped florals.

Altenew Statement Flowers Stamp Set | Erum Tasneem | @pr0digy0Like always, I tried to come up with three very different looking cards for you. Let’s start with the easiest of the three.

GOLD HEAT-EMBOSSED CARD

To begin, I stamped the image in Antique Gold Pigment Ink and then heat-embossed it in Crystal Clear Crisp Embossing Powder. I then fussy cut the design out and adhered it at an angle, off the edge with foam tape. Next, I used gold from the Metallic Watercolor 14 Pan Set and colored in the leaves. For interest, I also added a lot of splatters of the same gold watercolor. The sentiment was also stamped in Antique Gold Pigment Ink. To finish, I adhered a few gold sequins.

COLORING WITH WATERCOLOR BRUSH MARKERS

For the second card, I heat embossed the image in Antique Gold Crisp Embossing Powder. Next, I used Watercolor Brush Markers in Dusk, Persian Blue, and Turquoise to color the flowers and Jet Black to color the leaves.

The coloring technique I used is one of my very favorites and most used, I have taught it previously HERE. Once the image was dry, I used the coordinating die to die-cut it. For the card front, I used a light color wash of Jet Black Watercolor Brush Marker. I also added splatters of black paint from the Watercolor 36 Pan Set. For my sentiment, I chose to go with “Hi” which I die-cut out of Fine Alphabet Die Set in Gold Foil Cardstock.

EASY WATERCOLORING WITH ARTISTS’ WATERCOLOR

My final card is a one layer card. I stamped the image in Obsidian Pigment Ink and heat embossed it in Crystal Clear Crisp Embossing Powder. I used the Artists’ Watercolor 24 Pan Set to color.

For the flowers, I used a mix of Tea Party, Red Cosmos, and Warm Sunshine Watercolors. For the leaves, I used Tropical Forest, Delectable Delights, and Coffee Break. I also used the Rock Collection Watercolor to add depth.

To add texture, I added splatters of Pure White Watercolor on the image.

For the background, I used a light color wash of Fall Harvest Watercolor. The sentiment is from the Sweet Nothings Stamp Set.

You can watch the video below or on YouTube to find out how I colored the card.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you were inspired to try these 3 creative ways to add color to your stamped florals! See you next Monday!

Hi Erum, All of the cards are lovely! I went back and watched your video on watercoloring with brush markers, and all of the images look like enamel jewel tones. Beautiful! I can see why kids would love this technique. Thanks for the inspiration!

I enjoyed having coffee with you and your video this morning. The stipple technique gives a much more realistic texture to the petals and leaves. I also want to try your shadow technique because it’s so subtle.

I love your cards. They are all amazing! This is such an amazing stamp set, or could be the artists that make it amazing. :) I love the navy dark blue with the metatic colouring of the leaves. Super pretty! I think that is a card I could try and recreate. I love the 2nd card and how vibrant that blue is! And I really enjoyed watching you water colour the last one. I would have never thought to heat emboss with clear. That is such a great idea! And I love the shine on it as well. Gorgeous!

Erum, for the navy and gold card in the above photos, how did you create the background on the navy card stock in which there appears to be a brighter area in the center? Thank you, I love your videos!

Sorry for not including that bit, I inked the edges with a slightly darker ink with the help of a blending brush.

Thank you so very much for the instructional video! Your stippling seems very much your own style and I LOVE your work!♥ It was very helpful to see the palette and see just how much water you use when diluting the paints before applying your colors to the paper! (I tend to use too much water, I think!) THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
