3 Mixed Media Elements to Add to Your CAS Cards

by Virginia Lu

Hello, friends! This is Virginia here. Mixed Media is all the rage, but do you know that you can create CAS (Clean and Simple) cards with these versatile supplies? I love that Altenew offers a wide range of Stencils, Ink Sprays, Washi Tapes, Watercolor Sets/Markers, and Embossing Paste. Pairing these with your favorite stamps and dies will stretch your supplies and creativity. Today’s CAS card will show you how to create with Mixed Media. I hope this inspires you to get creative and play!

Today, let’s examine the 3 key elements in this CAS card: Geometric, Floral, and Background. You can apply these 3 key elements as a formula in all of your designs.

Mixed Media Element 1: Geometric

First, I started out with ink spraying the Watercolor Paper and letting it dry.  The Metallic Shimmer Ink Sprays I used are Sunkissed, Warm Sunshine, and Orange Cream. After running your Gem Frame Die Set through your Mini Blossom (with Metal Shim), you will get this lovely die-cut piece. I kept the middle piece intact with a dab of glue.

Mixed Media Element 2: Floral

After stamping the outline images with Just Jasmine Stamp Set in Delectable Delights Ink, I die cut the images.  I stamped the center of the Jasmine flowers in Antique Gold Pigment Ink.

Mixed Media Element 3: Background

Finally, with the Large Ink-Blending Tool, I inked up the bottom  of the card front in Milk Chocolate Crisp Dye Ink. I took out the Milky Way Stencil and applied Embossing Paste over it.  Once dried, I assembled all the die-cut and stamped pieces.

It is always fun and exciting to use Mixed Media on cards. I hope that you are encouraged to try out the 3 key elements in your designs, especially for your CAS cards. Thank you for stopping by!

Wonderful card, Virginia! Always love your work. Do you know if the May Card challenge winners announced? Blog said June 9th, but I can not find it. I had the same difficulty last month too.
