Using Dies as Stencils

by Rubeena

Hello, Altenew friends! I am so happy to share my very first design team post with you. I created several projects for you today. Do you ever forget about certain things in your craft room? I tend to forget some dies, background stamps, and stencils so I have been trying to slowly incorporate different things into my projects over time. Lately, I’ve been using stencils and ink blending on my card bases. There are many uses for stencils, and this is a quick way to use them. Did you know Altenew just released new stencils last week? Be sure to check out the blog hop for inspiration!

I came up with the idea of using certain cover plates as stencils. I decided to use thick metallic cardstock to cut with Doodled Dots Cover Die and Striped Leaf Cover Die.

For my first base, I used the Cherry Blossom Oval Set with an ink blending tool to create an ombre background from the panel I cut with Striped Leaf Cover Die. I started from the lightest to darkest colors and used the same blending foam so I didn’t have to keep switching them out. I die-cut glossy black and black glitter cardstock using the Mega Hello Die. Word dies are awesome and I love the ones that Altenew carries! I glued them together and then mounted it over the base with foam tape for dimension. Of course, this card will not fit in an A2 envelope, but it will fit in a thick parcel for mailing.

For the next card, I used Doodled Dots Cover Die. I used the die-cut panel and ink blended with Sea Shore Oval Set.

I die-cut gold glitter and glossy black cardstock using the You Are Loved Die. I glued them together and mounted it over the base with foam tape.

I decided to use the die-cut panel for a card, too.

I ink blended on the panel with Sea Shore Oval Set and since it was metallic cardstock, it gives off a nice shimmer. I stamped the large floral cluster from Dearest Friend with Pure Graphite Crisp Dye Ink. I colored it with markers and cut it with the coordinating dies. I cut off one end of it so it wouldn’t hang over my card. I first glued the colored panel to my card base and then added the floral image over it with foam tape. The sentiment is from Hello Sunshine and stamped with Embossing Ink and heat-embossed with white embossing powder. I blended Rubellite Crisp Dye Ink over it, trimmed it down and then mounted it right below the floral image.

I saved the other panel for another project. I always end up with extras so I just save them in bins for later. I hope you were inspired by these cards and will tag us when you share your projects. Have a great week!
